Interstates And Truck Stops

April 6, 2010

Left on Sunday and we've been driving ever since. Right now we're at Brushy Lake State Park in Oklahoma. We spent last night at a Flying J Truck Stop and the night before at a Walmart in Virginia. The Walmart actually was fine. We were surrounded by flowering trees of some type in a dark corner of a huge lot. There were five or six other RVs nearby, though we didn't see any of the occupants. We got in late and left early. The Walmart was open 24 hours and, when I went in around 5:00 a.m. to brush my teeth, the ever-present greeter gave me a cheerful “good morning”. The truck stop, however, was very loud and the security lights made it bright as daylight all night long. This campground is wonderful. We're directly on the lake and it's very quiet with only a few other campers. After three days of driving on interstates and sleeping nearby two nights, the sound of the quiet lake is sheer bliss.

Needless to say, we haven't seen anything of the states we've driven through. Virginia was gorgeous with lush and green rolling hills; Tennessee was a very wide state; Arkansas had a lot of churches; and here we are just inside Oklahoma. The ranger was very nice and the campground is wonderful. Here's to sweet dreams without ten-wheelers whizzing by!
